Rabbi Andrew Hahn — the Kirtan Rabbi — is a Western classically trained musician. His Hebrew Kirtan draws upon melodies taken from both European and Eastern sources, set in non-Western modalities. The chants are haunting, alluring and accessible to all. Absolutely no knowledge of Hebrew is necessary. Much of a Reb Drew Kirtan is improvised; the true performers — the audience — determine nearly everything. Along with the music, Reb Drew (as he often likes to be called) will pepper a kirtan with helpful meditation techniques and teachings culled from years as a martial artist and Jewish theologian. The result is a vibrational and meditative experience which has placed him in increasing demand across the country.
